Outlook brighter

We had our book group at six this evening and stayed till eight so we could check the result of the election together. Sighs of relief and a quick toast that it wasn't worse (bearing in mind it's the highest score ever for a far-right candidate). I drove home in the tranquil calm of a warm evening on the Canal du Midi. There wasn't a soul about on the roads.

In our village, Le Pen came comfortably top again. She wouldn't have if the 21 people who voted blank had voted for Macron. Now they are no doubt flaunting their moral superiority. Anyway ... now we have to gird our loins for the parliamentary elections. Should be interesting; I'm not holding my breath for the various lefts getting their act together. Although Macron as president and far-left Mélenchon as prime minister could be quite amusing. If Macron dares to appoint another male, right-wing PM, the battle is on!
