Controlled Burn........

The state of Florida is very proactive  with fire prevention.  We are in a drought now, the winter leaves and dead branches are collecting on the ground to be the tinder to feed wild fires.  In all of the Parks in Florida  the wooded areas are set on fire deliberately by the Rangers, the fire deptmarents, and volunteers.   The fires are contained with bull dozers and water trucks.  As the ground timer burns off,  trucks com through with water hoses and keep the fire burning and going in the directions  intended.  All of the live trees are watered at the bases .  All of the dead trees are pushed over, piled up and burned in a specific, safe place.  Everything is wet down at the end of the day or bulldozed over in the appropriate places. After all of this is done, there is no tinder to be set on fire by lightening strikes.      It's a huge undertaking, but the State puts a great of effort into this fire prevention.       Most of the years works really really well.  Every now then we will have a fire, like at Pines Prairie  several years ago.  Even though the peat moss and dried grass for a long time, no homes or property were threatened.   I forgot to tell you, I went on 18 mile bike ride today.  It was glorious!!!!!!!
Abby was doing very well so I felt safe leaving her home.   She was very glad to see me when I got back, with no coughing and a big appetite.
