High Royds
Time is extremely squeezed at the moment. Left home early on the bike to commute to the work, long day at the office, followed by a cycle back to reach home just as the sun was setting. It was not quite as warm yesterday, but still a lovely early Spring day, albeit another windy one. I'm posting this in colour because it seems the right way to celebrate what is hopefully the end of winter. There was no sign of any remnant snow around today. And the daffodils are finally in full bloom.
I've still got work to do and also have a very early start tomorrow for a morning meeting in Birmingham so no chance, unfortunately, to respond to some of the lovely and witty comments to yesterday's blip. Thanks so much guys. You're so entertaining. You're keeping me sane at the moment!
I took a little detour on the way back, hopping over a fence into a field to take this shot. Between the trees you can see High Royds (go large), now a fancy new housing estate but originally the County Lunatic Asylum, a place where broken souls were stolen away from the world and either forgotten or pretty much destroyed. The beauty here belies a great deal of tragedy.
PS For those into their Indie, Kasabian named their third album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, after this place and the Kaiser Chiefs wrote a song after it too.
