Five go slowly in the country.

Today, four of us went out to visit a fifth member of our fungi group who lives in the wonderful hamlet of Padley in The Dark Peak. It was an unofficial outing, and we went on a very leisurely wander around an area known as Bolehill Quarry, now long disused, but once the provider of gritstone for Derwent and Howden Dams, not too far away. We had no route or plan. We just wandered through the birch woods in the area and enjoyed the sunshine, scenery and wildlife, stopping frequently along the way. We found a badly hidden geocache, saw a drystone waller at work, and the inevitable rock climbers on Millstone Edge. We found lots of liverworts and lichens, a few fungi, wood ants galore, saw a raven tumbling, and an unidentified day- flying moth.
