This is the day

Easter flowers

We walked up to church today to have a coffee in the Atrium café, and while we were there we took the opportunity to slip into the empty church and sit quietly for a while.

All the window sills were still decked with Easter flowers and looked wonderful. As it happened, we weren't actually alone in there because one of our dedicated organists happened to be practising and, as we entered, we heard the familiar strains of Elgar's "Nimrod" filling the  entire space, which made me so happy.

Rachel, the organist, was practising for a service of thanksgiving for a very dear friend of ours, which is to be held tomorrow. She died in April 2020 so her funeral of necessity was a very small affair, but tomorrow the church will be packed with family and friends to celebrate her life.

The rest of the day has been pleasantly spent in digitising some lovely letters written between us over fifty years ago just after we were married when my husband had to go away on a course, which we have just discovered hidden away in a drawer. Wonderful memories. And then, to cap it all, we had an unexpected visit from granddaughters #2 and #3 with their Mum for an ice cream and a cup of tea respectively, which just added to the enjoyment of the day.
