Reminders

Our Easter lunch in Cumbria (srambled egg) and our daughter’s Easter breakfast in Cornwall (poached egg on rosti) - the common element being smoked salmon.

A few times a year for many years I have been ordering smoked salmon from the Hebridean Smokehouse on North Uist and this Easter I ordered some for us and some to be sent for our daughter and her husband. Joanne is an excellent cook and always does creative things with what I send them. We like the peat smoked roasted salmon as it is flaky and has a wonderful taste and texture. We had some last night with prawns as a starter. Delicious!

The background is a photo of the collection of picture cards that the Smokehouse send with each order, and at several times during the year to remind me to order (!). Always with best wishes on the reverse. I have them up on a magnet board in the kitchen and they remind us of a place we love. The house we usually stay in on North Uist is not far from the Smokehouse and it is nice to say hello when we pass . . . and of course to buy salmon to eat whilst we are there! A planned two weeks there has been cancelled twice, for obvious reasons, but we are hoping that our October booking this year will go ahead.

Meanwhile we enjoy the salmon!!
