A successful egg hunt

Nathaniel appeared at 5.45 am to tell me he had finished his book. He came in beside us and fell asleep. I didn’t.

#2 daughter and family arrived and the children painted the hard boiled eggs. I did a slow roast of a large shoulder of lamb for our family Easter lunch, with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, kale and peas. The gravy made from the garlicky, rosemary lamb
was really good. I rarely eat meat but I had a bit of the lamb which just pulled off the bone. It was almost 3 kilos and worth the £34. Ella and I had decorated the chocolate cake with a meringue nest of little eggs over which we sprinkled some cocoa which was pudding.

Their mums hid the chocolate eggs around the garden. It didn’t take long for them to be found, then we set off up the moor to the place the like to roll the hard boiled ones. It was warm and sunny out of the wind so the boys had their tops off, looking like extras from Lord of the Flies, rampaging off after the eggs.

The cousins all get on so well together and it’s been a lovely day, especially after 2 lockdown years. They have all departed, the sun is over the yardarm, and Mr C had cleared everything up so it will soon be gin time. It’ll be a large one.
