NO JOY IN MUDVILLE

The home team runner looks safe at 2nd base....but it truth, the shortstop tagged him in the leg before he got to the base.  The umpire saw it and called it.

It was a rough game for the home team, fresh off a win on Monday afternoon. There's a "mercy" rule in high school baseball; if you're behind by 10 runs and have played at least 5 innings, the game is over.

We were behind by 15 runs at the top of the 5th inning....but we had to bat to complete the 5 required innings. Unfortunately, the opposition got 5 more runs...we just couldn't get those last 3 outs. And then our turn to bat came up but we did nothing.  Final score:  20-0.  A humiliating defeat.

I told the coach not to beat himself up but to blame it on the wind. In truth, the wind was blowing in gusts up to 50mph (80+kph) which really affected pitching. Nonetheless, it hurt to lose so profoundly.
