National Library Week

I grew up loving to visit local libraries. The sight of all those rows of books just waiting to be read was exciting to me. I credit my wonderful Mother for introducing me to the love of reading and taking me to libraries sometimes every week! I tried very hard to pass on the same love of reading to my kids and the library was the place to go!

This week is National Library Week. Started in 1958 to celebrate and promote using local libraries. After a long appointment at the Doctor's office this morning, Moira was ready to do something else. So on our way home, we stopped at the Library!

Our local library is great. The children's staff is passionate about books and children. There is so much to do there for small children that is completely free: Wiggle & Sing time, Story-time, puppet shows, crafts and Guided Nature walks in the forest behind the library.

I believed that at an early age children gain independence by having the freedom to choose their own books and that leads to being excited about reading and learning. This photo shows the books that Moira picked (she loves animals and particularly monkeys!) and her coloring the little pictures that the Librarian gave her. We took home the materials to make a bookworm bookmark for after Moira's nap.

Hope everyone finds something good to read today!
