Fishing Gods?

Part 6: One street Project: Gulf Boulevard

After a frustrating morning, my husband and I needed to clear our minds and hearts. We took a long bike ride on the beach. It was a tough workout with a very stiff wind against us for about 5 miles. Fortunately the wind did not turn and we had it with us on the way back. It felt wonderful to feel the wind, smell the ocean and get some physical exercise. Of course, I had my eye out for a Blip!

This photo is of a sign on the historical Redington Long Pier. It is the lone survivor of long piers on Gulf Boulevard. It was built in 1962 by Charles Redington for only $200,000. The pier has survived many hurricanes only to lose 300 feet when a runaway 250 foot long barge carrying 5,000 tons of rock plowed into the end of the wooden pier structure. No one was injured! The current owners have taken out a $2.3 million dollar loan to complete major renovations and replacements on the entire pier structure.

We could not take our bikes on the pier pass a certain point. On our way back down the first part of the pier we saw this sign. One of the previous owners who was a huge fisherman hung this sign and it has remained as a very memorable sign.

My husband is the fisherman in the family and it is an inside family joke, that I always pray he would be blessed with success on his fishing trips and catch at least one fish! (He loves to fish, but doesn't do it often enough to be very good!)

Because we needed some light hearted moments, on the way back from our ride, we tried to recite all the fish jokes that we could remember. (it was not very many!) I leave you with this quote. Hope it brings a smile!

"Cook a man a fish and you feed him for a day. But teach a man to fish and you get rid of him for the whole weekend. "
