a lifetime burning

Caught ... red beaked

The scene of the crime and the main suspect is looking very guilty, with evidence plain for all to see: note the red fish scales on the heron's beak.  I anticipate that our neighbour has lost another of the Koi carp in her garden pond.  To add insult to injury, the heron was happy to perch on her roof after the event.  It is pretty windy today as you can see from the heron's stance and the waving feathers behind its head.

I'm hoping that the neighbours big fat Koi will prove much more attractive to the heron than the wildlife in our pond.  We don't have any fish in our pond.  We used to, but either this heron or one of its relatives eat them all.  Nowadays we have a thriving colony of newts and I would (ideally) like to keep it that way.

I just wanted to remind people that tomorrow, being a Tuesday, is an opportunity for close up photography with the Tiny Tuesday challenge.  For my sins I've volunteered to host the challenge for April.

Close up photography can be done with a  specialist macro lens but it doesn't have to be, you can use an existing lens with an extension tube, or even just use your phone.  Many phones can now produce really excellent close up results.

So please feel free to post a close-up image of anything that catches your eye tomorrow, and I'll give hearts to my favourites later in the week once I have had the chance of looking at all the entries.

The tag for tomorrow, Tuesday 12 April, will be  TT359
