Muttley's Musings

By RuralDave

No one would have believed!

On Thursday night I went to a special showing of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds at the cinema. Now the album and book are very dear to me. I remember being inspired Mr Kear, our teacher at primary school who decided we should listen to the album and then we had to write our own script and the we recorded our own musical version on cassette. We had synthesizers where we could make sound effects etc to accompany our own musical version of War of the Worlds. I guess it was like a mini BBC radiophonic workshop, all very Doctor Who like.

It was great fun and very inspiring for a 10 year old child back in the 80s. So much so I remember trying to get a copy of the book by HG Wells to read, but it was out of print and the library had really difficult time trying to find a copy for me. I also bought the album on cassette and we had to fill out a coupon to send off to get the booklet with all of the lyrics and art work that came with the LP version.

So here are my much cherished copies of the album art work booklet and finally my own copy of the novel.
