"St Mary's"

Today was my first day back at church with dad. St Mary's is a lovely church. I was sad to learn there is a chance St Mary's will be closed as they cannot afford its upkeep. I suppose its a sign of the times. My dads family saved every penny they could to help build St Mary's. Recent problems with the boundary wall was estimated as almost £50,00o for its repair. I looked around church and realise that the majority of the congregation are my dads age and very few are younger than me. The only time that many young people come is for christenings and weddings. Church doesn't have the same importance to the younger generation. I love to spend time with dads friends at church, they talk of times when they were younger, hard times, their families were poor, they went to St Mary's school where the nuns were hard, often cruel. They reminisce, laugh a bit, share their memories, tough times .... They usually finish up with eeee "happy days" .... Priceless :-)
