Crazing Glazing
Today really was a day of two halves (to paraphrase football parlance). The first half was very quiet as I had I lie in as I didn't go for an early morning run today - having done so for five out of the last seven days. - and my brother had gone to work and my sister is away.
So I had a leisurely breakfast and then walked up to the local shops to get M&S food and a bottle of wine as it's Fri-yay. The rest of the morning and afternoon was spent catching up on some telly - the new series of both Bridgerton and Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Netflix - and reading.
Today's image was taken on a hunt around our garden for a suitable blip subject when I came across an old vase half buried in the undergrowth. I really liked the network of lines and cracks (crazing) on the surface of the glaze.
Before I knew it it was time to go and collect my brother from the station after he finished work which is where events took a dramatic turn. I had picked my brother up and we decided to stop for quick drink at one of our favourite pubs, the King and Queen in East Malling, on the way home when we witnessed a car accident.
A driver travelling in the opposite direction had overtaken a parked car and then pulled in to let us pass and crashed straight into a parked flat bed truck. I immediately stopped the car and ran over to see if he was o.k. Thankfully he didn't appear to be injured but said he had been blinded by the low evening sun and hadn't seen the truck at all. He was angry at himself and said he had only popped out to get some garlic bread for his dinner. I assured him it was not his fault if he was unable to see. Me and couple of the other passers-by waited to check that he was still o.k and had been able to contact someone to summon help. We tried to see if we could help him move his car but unfortunately the front was wedged under the flat bed part of the truck.
I was really disappointed with the conduct of some of the other passing drivers - several just turned round and two actually mounted the pavement (in one case whilst I was still standing on it!) just to get past the crash scene.
The driver managed to contact his father, who lived nearby, and he said that he would be there shortly and he would phone his insurers (I gave him my contact details as a witness). He assured us he would be fine and thanked those of us that had stopped to help.
After the dramatic events we decided we were in need of that quick drink so we stopped at the King and Queen just to take a breather before we continued our journey home.
We spent the rest of the evening trying to wind down (my brother had another stressful week at work) by enjoying our M&S food and wine and watching 80's Greatest Pop Videos - with this particular episode being dedicated to 1986.
We then decided to have our very own Friday Night Kitchen Disco (inspired by Sophie Ellis-Bextor) - this was mainly due to the fact that we have three stereos none of which work so we had to use my brother's computer in the kitchen to play our 'tunes'.
We went with lots to early Madonna (True Blue, Into The Groove, Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach), some Ariana Grande and then finished with a chill out sesh of Eva Cassidy (a cover version of Woodstock, the Joni Mitchell song), Nanci Griffith (Trouble In The Fields and Love At The Five and Dime), Nadia Reid (Hanson St. Part 2) and Maria McKee (I'm Gonna Soothe You). There was even some kitchen dancing involved!
