Sunday Shoppers in Ayr

Sorry for the unexciting title. Actually, the picture isn't that exciting either, taken quickly on the way back from town! It had stopped raining by midday so Mom and I decided to go for a blow up to the shops. I say 'blow' as it was impossible to walk normally. No rude remarks please!! Seriously, it was that windy out that with the wind behind you, you were pushed along at a fair gallop.

I had a mission in mind. There is a bird feeding station visible from my bedroom window and I noticed first thing that one of the two containers was missing. I assumed it had blown away in the overnight gales and thought I'd get some fat balls and a cage from Wilkinsons. Doctor Bertie and Dad had bought the feeding station between them years ago. He was a fair bit older than Dad but the two of them were good friends and used to discuss the problems of the world while watching football matches on Sky telly in Bertie's flat. The poor man - The Reverend Collie to give him his proper title - was greatly saddened to give the service for Dad's funeral last year. The retired doctor, now a lay preacher did a wonderful job despite how awful it must have been.

Anyway, enough of my waffling! I got two packets of fat balls and a cage like the one I have in Brum. I took them to one of the tills and the girl said
'Oh! Are you going to feed the birdies?'
I just told her I thought they'd be nice with gravy and lamb chops. She just nodded and agreed. Interesting! The strange thing is that I can't get the vision out of my head now of birds sitting along in a line having Sunday dinner with gravy, them all with little napkins tied under their beaks.

I added the cage filled with balls to the feeding station as soon as I got back and filled the seed container on the other side up too. Glancing out of the living room window later, it was quite funny to see Bertie scratching his head looking puzzled stood out there. He'd bought one if those dome shaped squirrel deterrents for the pole and also had the missing nut container all filled up with him. He must have been out shopping himself! I should have gone out to explain but I'll catch him in the week. There are now three containers swinging away in the wind with the squirrel deterrent beneath. It's too windy out there for bird or squirrel at the moment.
