Nearly Finished

I could have completed all the painting today but when it got to 5.30pm I was hungry and once I’d had Frank’s yummy Chilli I just wanted to sit down. I’ve painted the landing, stairwell and most of the downstairs hallway in Daffodil White, one of my favourite Dulux colours, it’s so light and airy. I even painted the ceiling in the same colour because the stairwell is too high for either of us to reach to put masking tape on without some kind of scaffold. The long pole worked a treat and I could paint into corners with the fuzzy ball things. I can do the wallpapering on Monday when it arrives. The wallpaper is only going on the landing.

So that was my day, quite a job but I enjoyed it with Alexa playing some of my favourite music - Kate Rusby, James Taylor + Marc Knopfler (aaaah -Sailing to Philadelphia…) Eddi Reader, Paul Simon.

I went out in the garden this morning and there was a little poo the size of a cocktail sausage on the path (sorry if anyone is just eating cocktail sausages just now! :-D)) I think it must be from a hedgehog. Hence todays poem.
I also finished yesterday’s poem which I wrote after seeing a post on Facebook from a young Ukrainian woman. It was such a sad and poignant post.

Refugees

Please take us in - we have nowhere to go
Our town has been bombed
and we’ve trudged through the snow
All we have is a small bag each
and heads full of memories
all jumbled and out of reach
If we arrive on your doorstep
please don’t expect smiles
we’ve been living through hell
and travelled too many miles
We’re homesick cold and hungry
all we need is soup and beds
a place of comfort and safety
a place to rest our weary heads

Little Poo!

I think we had a visitor
in our garden late last night,
the evidence was on the path,
little poo and I may be right
in thinking it was a hedgehog
that came under the garden gate,
to feast on all those slugs
I hope it stays and brings a mate.
