The hardy few

Small blizzard this morning just at the time I set off for Green Gym.  Feel obliged to go as I take the refreshments!   Only 5 volunteers turned up.  We were planting trees today.  2 people from The Parks Trust were there to instruct and much to their surprise (and ours) we managed to plant 108 trees in 2 1/2 hours.  We worked through snow, rain, freezing wind and sunshine.  It was also a long trek from where we had to park.  The soil is heavy clay and very muddy.  We are at the same site next week, but will be mulching trees planted today and those already in from this and previous years.
The tree protectors are made from cardboard and bamboo so they should last 2 or 3 years and can then be composted.  An improvement on plastic.
Needless to say I had a little zzzz after my bowl of warm soup at lunchtime!
There's life in the old dog yet.
