Truly memorable history

As preparation for house moving, I set out to identify books that should be thrown out. Really I don’t think books should ever be thrown away, but I have some that are so old and dilapidated that there would be no pleasure in reading them.

Take, for example, this 1963 copy of 1066 and all that. It has literally fallen to bits and the paper is foxed and discoloured. But I made the mistake of starting to read, and it is such a funny book, I just can’t throw it away. It’s a spoof on academic history, claiming to contain all the history that is truly memorable. It’s 50 years at least since I last read it, and it still reduces me to helpless laughter.
