A Wasp year ?

Over the last few days I have seen a lot of wasps, and have had to direct a number - that have come into the house through open windows - outside. I assume that these are queens prospecting future nest sites. Looks like we could be seeing a lot of wasps this summer.

This is one intruder. It was buzzing in front of a front window, so I decided to take this year’s first wasp photo. As soon as I arrived camera in hand it changed tactic and after some confusion headed for the door which leads into our conservatory. Attached to the glass by a piece of sellotape is a card featuring an owl. We put that there after J walked into the door one day not realising it was closed - a real “ouch moment”. So here is the wasp exploring the “ ear” tuft of the owl.
