Canary Wharf

Quite a change in the weather this morning. You couldn't see the tops of the office blocks at Canary Wharf. Also, looking along the Thames the other way you couldn't see the top of the Shard or any of the other high rise London landmarks.  Rory was a bit concerned as for his birthday next month he is taking some school friends up the Shard. If the weather is like it has been today then they might only see clouds!

We stayed in London longer than planned. We walked from Wapping to Canary Wharf along the Thames path. We'd already had a McDonald's breakfast but nevertheless had schnitzels for lunch at the Munich Cricket Club (first extra - the waitresses weren't keen to have a photo taken but I explained it was for my daughter, actually in Munich). I don't know why the restaurant was called a cricket club. If they really do play cricket they'd probably be about the same standard as the current England team.

Outside the restaurant you could have a 'boating adventure' at West India Quay, in either a BBQ boat, or a hot tub boat (both featured in the second extra). Personally I would be a bit worried about setting off in a small boat with a barbecue or a wood fired hot tub on board.

We had an easy drive back so we're home now after what became a very enjoyable weekend with the grandsons. Joe is getting more used to us now which is nice.

By the way, daughter#1's quiz team came first last night. After babysitting we got to our hotel just after 11pm and had some drama paying for the car parking. I knew there would be a £10 charge but the machine wanted us to pay £20. I checked with the hotel reception who said it was only £10 and the machine had been 'playing up'. I should use the app. So I downloaded it and tried to pay but it just said 'sorry, there are no places available at your chosen location'. Luckily I was able to pay the £10 direct to the hotel.

Way behind on blip but I hope to catch up tomorrow.
