Disaster at sea

One afternoon in October 1881 during a fierce storm 189 fishermen died in Britain's worst fishing disaster. The memorial here is at the tiny hamlet of Cove where 11 men were lost and each bronze figure looking forlornly out to sea represents the widows, babies and children left behind in Cove.
This is one of four memorials by Jill Watson, each of which are in the places affected by the disaster. The others are in St Abbs, Burnmouth and Eyemouth where 88 widows and 182 children were left.
The plaque says

COVE LOST 11 OUT OF 21 FISHERMEN.
