Lost at sea

Today's the day ....................... for sculpture

This wooden sculpture, depicting a mother and child is to be found near the harbour in Kirkcudbright.

It is a memorial to the Dumfries and Galloway sailors who have lost their lives at sea over the years, with the mother and child both looking anxiously out to the Solway as they await the return of their loved ones.  

It was created in 1994 by local sculptress, Charlie Easterfield, and is made from a single green oak tree trunk ....................
