Simply Sunglasses & A Very Blue Morning, Brighton
Day Two of our holiday and we awoke to a beautifully sunny, very blue sky morning. Therefore, we decided to go for a walk before breakfast to take it all in. With my main image I was trying to capture how stunning it was but also that kitsch Seventies feel to the British seaside (this was really helped by the font of the lettering but I also loved the woman trying to soak up the sun in her shades!). The second image, "One Eye, Both Ways", was taken near one end of the Volks Electric Railway which is a narrow gauge heritage that runs along the length of the seafront. The third image is of one of the stairwells down to the seafront - the light bounced off the metal fencing and made it glow silver and made the shadows go inky black.
It was then time to go back to the hotel and have a big cooked breakfast as we had both got very hungry. I managed to consume bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, scrambled egg and a hash brown, washed down with orange juice and a cup of coffee! We needed a wee bit of sit after that but then decided to go and see an exhibition at the Museum and Art Gallery which is attached to the Pavilion (see the fourth extra of it reflected in buildings window opposite it's location).
The exhibition itself was a retrospective of the photography of Marilyn Stafford. She had an amazing career where she shot world leader, poets, refugees and fashion models. One of her very first shots was of Albert Einstein (!) and she often went on photographic trips with Henri Cartier-Bresson. Before that she was a singer in post war Paris and got to know Edith Piaf. She's still going strong at 97 - total legend!
The other extras are of some of the other colourful aspects of Brighton that make it such a vibrant city.
It was a full on day and we were a bit exhausted afterwards but we had a bloody brilliant time!
