Hoping For Butterflies, Brighton
This is a bit of a back blip as me and brother have just spent some time down in Brighton. It was our first holiday since the pandemic and I must say it was so good to get away from everything for a few days.
We left home before midday and made our way down to Brighton. It was a very smooth journey until we reached the centre of the city and hit a bit of a snarl up, but soon enough we made it and parked the car. We then went straight to the Robin Hood pub (one of our favourite places) and had pizza and beer. At one point we were the only ones in the place but the bloke behind the bar was so friendly and welcoming and the music they have playing is always great. It was very relaxing and enjoyable.
After that it was time for a walk along the seafront where I took all of the day's images. The sky was still very grey from, apparently, Saharan dust but it did produce a very soft light. With the main image I spotted this woman with her phone between the blocks and just hoped she would move her hand a bit more to her side - and then she did! I took the first extra because to me it showed that Brighton wasn't quite waking up for Spring yet - the colours were all there but not quite the activity to go with it.
My third shot was a bit of serendipity - I'd framed everything and then out of nowhere this cyclist shot through. I really liked the blur of him against the other static elements!
The last shot is of my brother taken through the sculpture "Afloat" by Hamish Black and is supposed to represent what the universe looks like (the technical name for this is a torus - a shape that has a continuous surface with a whole in it). Everybody, whether tourist or local, calls it The Doughnut, for obvious reasons. It weighs over two tonnes.
After our walk we had to go back to the car to retrieve our bags to take to our hotel, The Charm, in Kemptown. Of course, this was the moment it decided to start raining so by the time we reached the hotel we were pretty wet and bedraggled. The day was finished off with a drink on wobbly stools in a busy bar and then a fantastic Thai meal in a restaurant called Longrain which was, luckily, just a stone's throw or two from our hotel. It was an excellent first day of our holiday.
