On the boardwalk
Back to Brighton today to see my eldest daughter and her partner, and their treasured dog, Kanji. It was a beautifully sunny day but very windy. We walked to a pub in Kemptown for a late lunch via the new boardwalk that is being installed, running alongside the Volks electric railway to the east of the Palace Pier. Strictly speaking the boardwalk is closed to the public as it is still under construction but this was being blithely ignored by all and sundry. There is a lot of planting also taking place between ridges of shingle, alongside the boardwalk, presumably to help bind the beach and prevent drift. Cue reference to Under the Boardwalk by The Drifters. As part of the redevelopment of this stretch of the seafront, the existing Brighton conference centre near the Grand Hotel will be replaced by a new building just past the Volks railway terminus, near to Brighton marina. I just hope it is a more attractive building to look at than the current one.
