A Stitch in Time......
"Silver threads and golden needles cannot mend this heart of mine" - but they sure can win it! Add some beads and I am smitten. I love to see handwork of any kind but the delicate, intricate works of embroidery and other needle crafts and the skill of the artists fascinate me.
I had to go to the library today before my eye check-up and came across an exhibit by the Trillium Embroidery Guild of Durham Region in the lobby. Some of the pieces were exquisite...
As a child growing up wth a mother who was adept with a needle, I learned from her how to do the basics of embroidery, crewel, cross-stitch, and tapestry (along with hand-quilting, dress-making, crocheting and knitting as well! ) - hobbies I still enjoy today. I learned early to appreciate the skill and patience required to master those arts. So when I see the work of those who have accomplished that level of expertise, I am in awe..and inspired.
As I stood there admiring those needlework projects today, I was reminded of my mom and how she gave my sister and me a lifetime of enjoyment making things with our hands... I wonder now, if she ever knew how much that has meant to us...and ...did we ever say thanks?
