I stopped at Shubie Park this morning, but most of the trails were too icy to go far. The ones that get plowed were fine, but most of them end up going to the off leash area for dogs, and with the stories I hear of other dogs being attacked and people being attacked by uncontrolled dogs, I stay away from there.
While I was watching some ducks, I felt something on my leg. I looked down and here was this squirrel climbing my leg. I didn't have any peanuts but I did have a couple of handfuls of sunflower seeds from a previous walk. I barely had the seeds out of the bag when the chickadees started landing on my hand, so I let them have some. The squirrel kept climbing my leg and getting down again. I was going to put some on the ground, but the ducks were vacuuming up the seeds before anyone else could get any. I really wish someone had been around right then to take a video. I walked a bit further down the trail to get away from the ducks. The squirrel knew to follow me. I stopped and he came part way up my leg, I put my hand down with some seeds and he was quite happy to eat them from my hand until someone with a dog came along, then he rushed up a tree to safety. The couple with the dog saw me there, and they actually stopped several feet away while the squirrel was eating.
I have to fill a couple of baggies with sunflower seeds and peanuts ready for the next time I go there.
Then I headed out to Eastern Passage for a walk along the boardwalk.
