Chard Babies

OK it’s not the most exciting picture ever but it marks the start of the allotment planting season and that’s a biggie. I sowed the chard seeds in October and they sprouted quite happily but the birds (and possibly beasts) were eating them faster than they could grow so no crop for me! Today I was going to chuck them in the compost bin but noticed signs of new growth and instead they’re now trimmed and replanted in a newly composted veggie bed. With a bit of luck there’ll be other allotmenteers with fancier seedlings to forage. And having survived the winter they’re not going to be bothered by a late frost, always a problem up here.
I’m just back from the tenpin where we only managed a couple of points, better than nothing but we really needed all six to avoid relegation. Sigh.
