Getting Your Lines Crossed
Today's image was taken after a quick trip into Maidstone - it's a view from the Millennium Bridge across the River Medway towards the tower of All Saints Church. I just love the contrast between the modern architecture of the bridge, including the lines of the supporting structures and the walkway, and the Grade 1 listed church. You can also see a modern tower block in the distance and some the scaffolding erected as the church undergoes conservation work.
A church has stood on this site on the banks of the River Medway since at least the year 650 but much of the church as it is today was erected or updated within the last 200 years.
I had been hoping for a more dramatic sky but today was again grey and cold - unlike a couple of days ago Spring suddenly feels like a long way off again.
The rest of the day involved an early run, food prep for tonight's dinner (leek and mushroom crumble) and a good old book reading session. I'm currently reading "The Book of Echoes" by Rosanna Amaka. It's about a boy from Brixton and a girl from Nigeria and how their two stories ripple through generations.
I must admit I sometimes take a lucky dip on books without reading a review - only going by the blurb on the back of the book or sometimes even the cover design (which was the case here). It has certainly paid off this time as I absolutely love this book. You really care about the characters.
