Diary of an Edinburgher

Bun reward

Went to the gym again this morning! Did my torture on the cross trainer - it’s not getting any easier - also the treadmill, and various arm/leg contraptions. Then I noticed a sign reminding people that their membership also includes one-to-one instruction. Yes! That’s what I need to do. And so I’ve arranged a first session next week. I’ve also cancelled my physiotherapist/osteopath, as this is much better value. Besides, I should be getting nearer to that NHS physio appointment.

JR came home with two cardamom & pistachio buns from the wee cake shop she has discovered near the pool. I was REALLY looking forward to having it with a coffee when I eventually got home. And I did. I really did. Yum yum. I figured I deserved it, though I’m not sure the calorie count was balanced out by the exercise.

In the afternoon we went along to the cafe to meet up with a pal. Archie came too, and when he realised where he was going, tried to drag JR on past the door. In fact, he had to be carried in! He makes a bit of a scene when we go to leave, so it has to be done swiftly, with Archie nipping at our heels and telling us off. What a boy! We took him a walk to the cemetery, where we saw Hamish, his big hero. He was having a wee peek down into the crypts. (Extra)

When I’ve not been keeping fit or doing housework, I’ve been watching the news. Apart from the news from Ukraine, we have the sad news that Shane Warne died suddenly, aged 52. And the astounding news that Gavin Williamson, otherwise know as ‘Private Pike’ has been awarded a knighthood!! He’s been sacked TWICE, from TWO cabinets, by TWO Prime Ministers, and he presided over an exams shambles during the pandemic while Education minister. UNBELIEVABLE!!
