Buskers
Busking:
-- is the practice of performing in public places for gratuities, which are generally in the form of money or edibles. People engaging in this practice are called street performers, buskers, minstrels or troubadours.
Did you know that:
1. This art form was the most common means of employment for entertainers before the advent of recording and personal electronics.
2. Christmas caroling is also a form of busking.
3. There are laws affecting buskers as early as 462 BC in ancient Rome.
4. Benjamin Franklin was a busker before he was dissuaded by his father; Tracy Chapman began her career busking in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and Bon Jovi has been known to take to the streets from time to time.
Anyways,
I went for a walk at Rotherham Town Centre this morning hoping to get a photo of Rotherham Minster. It looked quite depressing though, what with this quick turnaround of the weather (I can't believe I had to start fireplace again!), so off with that, may be next time. These buskers caught my attention. They were going at it like they were performing in a crowded jazz club (well, at least the two men in the middle were, others on the sides were like, yeah we're here) even though nobody didn't seem to be interested. Oh, one or two elderly gentlemen stopped to sway some hips, and throw some change. But other than that, nada.. I wonder how long they'll be having a go at it considering the amount of attention they're getting... and how much they'll be making for it..
My day was quite productive compared to them (well, depends on how much they make today LOL). Bought some milk on my way home, made coffee with cream on top (which I'm sure is going straight to my hips -- don't care); started the fireplace (believe me, that takes a lot of effort!), made card to take to Carmelite Sisters on Saturday (yup, I also make homemade cards), changed bed linens, did the laundry and finished all ironing! Whew!!
Will be preparing dinner for dear husband in a while for when he comes home from work..
That's my day today.
Hope somebody else had a much more exciting day than I did!
