The Rope Walk, Sandwich
Another fine, sunny day with cloudless blue skies saw us travel down to Sandwich in east Kent on the River Stour.
This wonderful medieval town was once a thriving Cinque Port now a few miles inland along the tidal Stour. Loads of beautiful old buildings with lots of history. Plenty of evidence of its medieval past with sites of old gatehouses and this walk which is part of the old town walls. Great names to buildings too.
After a coffee and a scone spoilt by being microwaved we walked across the Royal St George’s golf course on the Saxon Shore Way to Pegwell Bay then battled a strong cold wind along the beach until reaching the isolated Sandwich Bay estate where we turned inland.
Passing the Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory we made our way inland back to the town across former marshland cross crossed by ditches which have drained the land for hundreds of years.
Somewhat concerned about the latest escalation in the Ukrainian situation. It’s not going as he expected snd he’s turning to ever more desperate tactics to enforce his power. How will the ordinary Russians respond?
