Aboriginal art exhibition in the Box, Plymouth’s premier museum and gallery. Utterly fascinating and incomprehensible to the Western mindset. The creation myth involves the seven sisters who are watched by a malevolent man who chases them from east to west and where they stop they create water holes! The man is a shape shifter and a deceiver! The painting is very strong and the colours reflect the country.
There were also sculptural representations of the sisters!
There was some film of aboriginal women dancing and singing and passing on the oral tradition of the myths. When the race between the sisters and their adversary is finished they are turned into stars, the Pleiades otherwise known as the seven sisters and Orion in perpetual pursuit!
