The Boars Head

This is in Higher Poynton Cheshire, and is a great example of Victorian pub architecture. Built in the 1880s to replace the old Boars Head, and after the opening of the nearby railway. The canal is also nearby. There is a cafe next door, which originally was a temperance tavern, built by Lord Vernon, the collieries owner, to discourage miners spending their wages in the Boars Head. We love walking here, following the miners’ route, up Prince’s Incline, through the woods and along the canal to the pub, the cafe, or usually the little shop/cafe known as Bailey’s Trading Post.
