Wildflower ----- or weed!
Noticed this Colt's-foot growing at the base of my betula jacquemonti. Don't know whether to leave ot or weed it out. Will probably leave it and regret it as it spreads!
It is one of the first things to emerge in early Spring. The flowers come first, bright golden yellow daisies with scaly crimson stems. The leaves only appear when the flowers are dying back. It's Latin genus name is Tussis ago which means 'to drive out a cough'. It was a remedy for coughs and respiratory diseases and a tincture of its leaves is still added to some cough sweets!
Not sure I will be trying it!
