Sunshine on Leith
22.02.2022*
“The next station is Yate. This is great…” read the display screen in the train carriage as I trundled south to Bristol where I took the airport flyer bus to BRS for a flight to EDI. My daughter had kindly given me a lift to Cheltenham Spa station to make sure I did not miss my train.
My Blip shows Leith’s port and the City of Edinburgh beyond.
It was strange to be flying in to a city we no longer live in. In the eight months since we left some things have improved such as the sparkly new office complex at Haymarket and the new Meadowbank Sports facility. Less good was the tram construction traffic diversions and the appalling state of Edinburgh’s roads. They are all seriously in need of resurfacing! The abandoned once iconic Jenner’s store sums up the current demise of Princes Street.
The street where we used to live has just been closed to through traffic. That is a significant improvement. The Portobello Town Hall is looking loved again which is also great to see.
Tomorrow, before I go to the sad funeral of a friend, I will walk along Porty promenade and remember the happy times we spent on the beach with our late friend.
