Come Away In
Well, good morning to you all. It is lovely to see you so early, and with the coast clear, so to speak, if you would form an orderly line, I will open The Door and let you in for our coffee morning.
The space is somewhat limited and of course there is only one chair and a footstool ; His Lordship does not encourage company. You will have to perch on the desk or sit on the floor. If too many blippers appear, we may have to overflow into the sitting room.
Don't you think it's exciting that our little get together will be recorded for posterity in the National Libraries in England and Scotland? Do you think future generations will think it strange than we can enjoy a virtual coffee get together with people from all over the world, or will this be the norm in the years to come?
Please don't finger His Lordship's ornaments. I was going to say nick nacks, but I realised that the racier amongst you might put this in the wrong context.
I would also ask that you don't let crumbs fall on his floor, although he probably wouldn't be able to see or distinguish between your crumbs and his, such is his disregard for such trivial matters. I see he has left his mug on the desk- don't be deterred by the sentiment.
Well now that we've had our little chat and the coffee and biscuits are finished, it may be time for you to leave. I don't want to keep you; it isn't that His Lordship will be home any time soon, rather that I have a lunch engagement with two daughters and two grandchildren. The pink shoes are safely hidden.
It's been lovely having you. Please leave the dishes, I will attend to them later.
If you have you all retrieved you coats, I'll say goodbye ....and yes, go up the steps and turn right. You'll find the way out there.
