WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Seen on the way to Skipton Little Theatre tonight. I’m glad that’s not the one our Dentist uses!

We saw Death Trap at the theatre. We’ve always enjoyed previous productions there but neither of us really enjoyed this one.

After Storm Dudley last night - which was roaring - the day turned out relatively calm and I managed to pot on the tomato seedlings and the lettuce and basil too.The window sills will be full for a while.

My ‘Doon Head Clock’ - Dandelion drawing for Febcreate is in Extra.

All this talk of war made me think of my Dad, who never really told us about his experiences of WW2.

Dad’s War

Dad never spoke much about the war.
But he showed us the odd photograph,
Him in Cairo, in front of the Pyramids,
Him and his pals reading the Liverpool Echo
On a dusty street, under the hot sun
The little dog they adopted out there
Then had to leave behind them
He never spoke of the fear or sorrow,
Just about the lack of decent food
And vitamin deficiency because of it
About having to wear filthy clothes.
He told us he was sent to ‘Fatland’ or
Greece - it made us children giggle.
We were too young to know the horror.
He didn’t speak about the sad loss
Of his younger brother on HMS Warwick
Or of comrades killed before his eyes.
No, Dad never really spoke about the war
And we didn’t ask and now I wish we had.
He didn’t have a medal to show us
Because he refused it - that says it all.

Bedtime now.
Goodnight :-)X
