Hebden Bridge / Jane Weaver

Our short Valentine trip to Hebden Bridge was supposed to start with a train ride but it was all replacement buses, this morning, so instead we drove, eschewing the motorways and taking a far more scenic and enjoyable route.

We had lunch at The White Lion, where we are staying, and then took an afternoon mooch around the town, ending up, appropriately enough, in the Mooch Café.

Much as I like Hebden Bridge, our actual reason for choosing this as a destination was to see Jane Weaver playing at the Trades Hall, which is where we went this evening. Now this should have been a good little gig but whilst I like Weaver's voice, it doesn't really cut through, and the sound engineer didn't seem to be able to remedy this*, meaning the songs were a bit lacking.

Consequently, the Minx retired to the bar with her book after a few songs but the band were good enough to give me cause to stick around, especially the drummer who was superb.

*To be fair to him, it might just have been a fluke of where we were standing with respect to the PA.
