The Missing Link. Leitz Summitar 50mm, Bellows II
During the recent reorganization of my workroom/study, an adapter ring for the Leitz Bellows appeared from the back of my camera drawer. It enables a Leitz M-mount 50 mm lens to plug right onto the front of the Bellows without the use of extension tubes to achieve huge magnification. I did a quick setup to photograph the tiny numbers stamped on the 1/2oz weight of my grandfather's letter scale. In reality, they're just 5mm in height. I call this adapter "The Missing Link". As soon as there's time, I'll photograph the whole setup. The Bellows attachment and the adapter are equipment from the 1960s or 70s, exquisitely made, and pretty-much completely side-lined by current technology. And yet, with the addition of another adapter ring, I can mount my little Panasonic digital camera in place of the equally exquisite Leica M film camera that was originally intended to capture the image.
