"W...woah," said Kate with a shiver. "That was weird. Seriously weird."

"How did it feel? Never tried taking someone with me before. For me, the strangest thing is that there's nothing dramatic about it. Leave one place, turn up in another. By rights, it should be a whole lot weirder, I reckon."

She gulped. "I sort of know what you mean - but give me a chance. Remember, that was my first trip."

"Sorry. Yeah, takes some getting used to. I'm just relieved it worked at all."

"You mean you weren't sure it would? Well thanks a lot."

I was tempted to ask her what her plan had been, but I thought better of it.

"Anyway," she continued, "where are we? And don't say 'at a lighthouse', I'm warning you."

"Don't remember the exact name. Somewhere down the coast. Just thought of somewhere we might be beyond the reach of interested parties, a bit off the beaten track. Somewhere they might not think of looking. Somewhere we could talk and not be disturbed."

She nodded. "Well, don't think I don't appreciate the thought, but its bloody freezing. It's blowing a gale and it's about to piss it down. Got any places we could go that are indoors?"

I couldn't think. Kate, on the other hand, said "I've got it. Listen, can I direct where you go? I've thought of the ideal place."
