Writ in Water
All three daughters were with us today to mark, one week late, my eldest daughter's birthday. Paula had brought her dog, Kanji, with her and so we all headed off to Runnymede for a walk. This is a very historic location. It is where Magna Carta was signed over 800 years ago. Today's photos were taken inside Writ in Water, which is described as "a major architectural artwork" by leading British artist Mark Wallinger. It provides an opportunity " to reflect upon the founding principles of democracy through a meeting of water, earth, sky and light". It is very basic on the outside - a squat round building of rough concrete - but very striking inside as I hope the pictures show. Clause 39 of the Magna Carta is reflected in the water.
