‘Park Improvements’
The renovations and improvements at Inverleith Pond are well underway now.
At the western end the boardwalks and viewing platform are being totally renovated, this time using larch, which should be longer lasting.
In addition, what looks like a new platform is being built just to the east of the main boardwalk, which should offer a more secluded and secure nesting place for the swans, coots and moorhen next summer.
For the work to take place, the pond - less than a couple of feet deep normally - has been almost completely drained, but there’s just about enough water to keep the existing residents reasonably happy, even if it means that the contractors have to move around in very substantial Wellingtons. Heaps of rubbish are also being collected from the bottom.
The work, we are promised, should be completed around the end of the month, and everyone is looking forward to admiring the results!
