More home: the truck
You can just see the windows of the window seat in this shot. The cab of the truck contains the main electricity box and little else except a steering wheel. Not that it’ll be going anywhere ever again.
Inside the truck itself is the dining area. There is a large shelf above the cab which was once used as a sleeping platform (before me). I use it to dry beans and walnuts in autumn, and as a seed nursery in spring.
The back of the truck has an extension, which is built on piles in the ground. Half the extension is the bathroom, half is the deck, which is visible on the right of the photo.
The far side of the truck has a further extension along it’s whole length, which creates the kitchen space, and the pantry / laundry.
The truck is ancient and the conversion was done about 10 years ago. It works, but it has issues, many as a result of the fact it is snuggled into the south face of a hill.
While its position means I get a great view across the property and down to the gate from the dining table, it gets no sun at all in winter and is freezing. There is a potbelly stove inside, which is broken. There is a heater which is essential for six months of the year: an expensive way to keep warm.
As a result my plan is to build a new kitchen/dining/bathroom on the south side of the main lawn with big north-facing windows to soak up the sun. It will happen when a chunk of savings become available to me on my 65th birthday. So I have a few years to plan it properly and gather a team of tradespeople.
In the meantime the truck is carefully looked after because it needs to stagger on a wee bit longer.
All questions will be answered in full…
I got my booster yesterday, with no side-effects other than a slightly tender upper arm. The nurse looked exhausted. They are doing it tough. I am grateful they are sticking with us.
