Under disguise!

Sunday February 6
This morning we went for another drive around the wildlife refuge - with our Senior National Park Pass we get in free. We had blue skies for much of the morning, whereas yesterday had been largely overcast. Once again, we had some good sightings - white pelicans, yellow crowned night herons, cormorants, immature ibis and mature ibis, anhinga, snowy egrets and tri coloured heron - but the most unusual was this reddish egret! Now you might say, where’s the red!?! Well this is one of a relatively small number of breeding adult white morph reddish egret, found only in Florida and the Gulf coast. I also managed to capture it doing its little “dance”, where they create a shadow with their wings to both startle and attract the fish. When we were finished there, we continued on to the bike rental place to find a replacement to our stolen bikes (see yesterday) for the week. Then we stopped for an ice cream before returning to the condo, then going for a bike ride, a popular pastime on Sanibel, as dedicated walking and biking paths parallel most of the major roads.
