Bugs in a Chestnut Tree

Some nice pieces of feltwork crafted by Art Textiles students from a local secondary school, under the direction of felt artist, Debbie Lucas. These are on display in the courtyard of Dalemain, a Mansion House not far from Penrith. I needed to put a few images together again, as pictures of the tree did not work and one on its own did not reflect the whole idea.


A word of explanation regarding yesterday's blip and linking it with this one.

CANOPY
This is a project by Eden Arts, Cumbria, where artworks and installations are being displayed in trees and woodland across the Eden district throughout 2013. One of the ideas behind the project is to promote wool, which is very important in Cumbria. We do have an awful lot of sheep here! The project is in collaboration with the Wool Clip Craft Co-operative, a group of women who have done such a lot to encourage wool textiles, particularly through the very successful Wool Fest, held every year in Cockermouth.

The Woollen Woods that we came upon unexpectedly yesterday is the main part of this project. It is in the woodland at Acorn Bank, a National Trust property not far from where I live. There is a house, but the main attraction is a large garden, extensive herb collection and a woodland area. There is also a restored watermill. I love the woodland area, as it is well-managed and there is always something to see.

Currently, as part of this project, there are hundreds of woodland themed artworks in the trees. I tried to give a flavour of them yesterday but, as they are adding to them all the time, I will no doubt return at some point. The work was submitted by artists, schools, groups and individuals in the UK and around the world. It should be up most of the year. Apparently there is little concern about the weather, because the items are all 100% wool and should come to little harm in rain. Let's hope so!
