Balaustradas

Balustrades.

Ilha de Moçambique fits nicely into the category of ‘faded grandeur’. Economically it’s less of a hub than it used to be, which means the splendid architecture and features have generally worn and aged over time. It’s gorgeous, but that’s very much the blinkered perspective of an outsider who doesn’t have to live somewhere which has been on a gradual downturn for decades.

One section of the island has balustrades separating the rocky beach from the road, or used to have balustrades before many of them either disintegrated or were removed. I strolled this evening in the stillness of the sunset, soaking up the island’s vibe, and poking my camera through gaps in the balustrades.
