Gracious Pond

This is a fish pond on Chobham Common known as Gracious Pond. It is one of a number of such ponds to have been established in medieval times to serve Chertsey Abbey. Chertsey Abbey was one of the wealthiest and most influential Abbeys until it was closed down by order of Henry 8th in his programme of dissolution of the monasteries between 1536 -1541.
