There's no Smaug without fire

Well, more of the same. I was sorely tempted to take photos of sunshine in the campus courtyard but I'm not going to do it and risk my job.
My new line manager asked me today if I had resigned during my first week because she had received a message instructing her to reclaim my laptop. 
Yes, this is the same HR team who expected me to enrol in 13 minutes on a Friday evening a fortnight ago. 
I assured her that I had not resigned and she seemed happy to hear that.
It does seem very can-of-worms / nest-of-vipers / dragon's den just at the moment, but I have 51 weeks remaining to turn it into a happy and rewarding workplace.
We pigeons can be very resilient.
