Diary of an Edinburgher

Porty!

I picked JR up after her gym session, for we were going to Porty Beach for breakfast and to meet a friend.

And what a glorious morning it was. The cold wind of yesterday had dropped quite a bit, though there was a definite nip in the air. Archie had his liver muffin, and ran like a silly dog between us for ages. Though he then goes into the sea for a drink. He’s nearly eight years old and he still hasn’t learned! There are plenty of doggie water bowls along the Prom, at every cafe, so he should just wait.

We met up with Pauline, an ex-colleague of JR’s. We went to Miro’s which is always full of dogs. In fact, we were sitting chatting and I saw a schanuzer outside the glass door. I was about to say ‘Oh, look - another schnauzer.’ But had to change it to ‘Why is Archie outside looking in?’ JR hadn’t attached his lead to her chair securely enough.

After breakfast we walked along the beach a bit more. There are some small wooden carvings screwed to the groynes. They are like little Easter Island heads. (Extra 1 Yes, that’s someone who’s just been swimming!!) There was more, quite radical, chalk graffiti. (Extra 2)

Archie wasn’t sick, just very miserable, on the way there or back. But he and JR walked home quite a long way, so that saved him. And I took the wee hand hoover thingie out to remove the sand in the newly-valetted car!

I had a rest from chef duties tonight - just as well after last night’s fraught session. We popped down for a delayed Christmas soirée at Christine’s house. It had been postponed because of the Covid restrictions at the time. (Take Note, Number 10…)

And it was splendid! The nibbles were amazing. What a variety. Lots of seafood, including rather tasty crab claws. Dougal (Extra 3) was VERY excited, but was actually very good, considering all the nice smelling food around.
